Mumbai Ophthalmologist: Interesting fact about the shape of Horse Shoe Tear HST

The apex of the HST always points towards the macula and the base towards the Ora Serrata

Why is this so?

This is so because the vitreous which is the main culprit in the patho-physiology of a HST always detaches from posterior to anterior direction.

The vitreous stays adherent to the anterior flap of the tear.

The tear is always towards the direction of Ora Serrata.
